Want to get out cycling? Then the Teams Wheelers club is for you, we're all about miles and smiles!

Teams Wheelers is a community bike club based in Teams, Gateshead, and we came together to promote cycling in the area for all, but especially for new or returning cyclists. We want to help people make the most of cycling for fun, transport, health, and mental wellbeing and consider the social benefits of club cycling just as important as cycling - we're all about miles and smiles!

We run regular weekly bike rides 3 days a week, and other events year-round including long-distance rides, charity rides, cycle confidence classes, maintenance days, and club socials. We are always looking for new riders, and we can provide training for ride leaders, bike mechanics, and first aiders free of cost. Our club HQ is a community centre in Teams, Gateshead, and we have access to our own bike shed to store club bikes and a wide variety of tools and equipment for club use. If you're arriving by car you can park at the Teams Social Club on Derwentwater Road.

You can get in touch via email at hello@blgateshead.org.uk or phone on 0191 477 3734. Join us on Facebook or Whatsapp to keep up to date with the club, feel free to introduce yourself if you're new to the group and our friendly members will welcome you and help you get started.

Our regular group rides

We run 3 weekly bike rides from 5-30 miles to suit all abilities on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, meeting at the Big Local Bungalow on Derwentwater Road, NE8 2HQ from 9:30am to leave at 10am. Most of our rides take place on ‘traffic free’ cycle paths or quiet roads and include plenty of stops to check out the views and have a cuppa! We ride at a relaxed pace, around 7-12mph, and avoid hilly routes, with the emphasis on socialising and getting out.

Anyone can join a single ride for £1, or a yearly membership which is £5 for the year. We also have a small fleet of club bikes you can hire for club rides for £1. Members can join any ride or use club tools free of charge, attend training, and get access to our bike maintenance service offered by club technicians at very reasonable rates.

Families and under 16s with a responsible adult are welcome to join all of our rides, but we also run family rides outside of term time especially for young cyclists at a gentle pace on short, traffic-free routes.

Bill Patterson Memorial Ride - Saturday 30th July 2022

Join us for a 10 mile bike ride in memory of Bill Patterson to raise funds for charities closest to his heart. Bill was a founding member of Teams Wheelers and dedicated to many other community causes, we want to celebrate his life with those who cared about him most!

Bill's ride is open to almost all abilities including families, and will be cycled at a relaxed pace with qualified ride leaders and first aiders. For more information or to register for Bill’s Ride click the button below…
