Growing Together and a BIG thank you!
This week I’ve been busy delivering vegetable growing kits and planting at the community allotment to get it ready for the summer.
We have had such amazing feedback on our veg kits, Thank you to all who have ordered so far! The kits are a great way to get started growing your own food. Please tell your friends and neighbours, it would be great to have more people growing at home!
“Thank you so much for our veg kit, can’t wait to get planting today!” - Lisa

At the allotment, the poly tunnel has been cleaned and cleared and is filling up with cucumber, butternut squash, aubergine, peppers and tomatoes. We have sweetcorn, runner beans, broccoli, courgette, cabbage, spinach, onions and peas outside so far with lots more seedlings and plants ready to go in over the next couple of weeks.
At the end of the season, we are hoping to incorporate some of the vegetables, into the food parcels going out to families in our community and hopefully cook up a wonderful feast for us all!
We have launched a new Facebook gardening group, BLG Growing Together where we can all share our ideas, ask questions or get advice, and keep in touch with each other. It’s a great place to post pictures of your gardens and the vegetables from your kits as they grow. Please join us and join the group!
Finally I want to say a huge thank you to a couple of people who have been helping look after the allotment and spruce it up - Gemma Levers from Gem Gem painted rocks, and Paul, Molly, and Jayden O’Halloran. Paul and his family have been growing plants to be grown on at the allotment and have been a huge help looking after the site during initial lockdown.
Gemma, is a Big Local Gateshead resident and has created and donated this beautiful sign for our allotment along with these beautiful stones. Thank you so much Gemma, I can’t wait to get the sign up for all to see!
