Community Plant Share

If you have been growing anything from seed or have been clearing and dividing plants in your garden, you may have extra plants and nowhere to put them or a glut of produce you don’t know what to do with.

We are launching a new plant swap scheme at Big Local Gateshead, based at our community allotment on Arkle Street.

Every Wednesday starting next week (July 1st), between 10am and 2pm you will be able to visit the allotment to collect free plants and drop off any extra plants you have to share with other people. We have set the system up to manage the exchanges safely and ensure that social distancing guidelines are met.

We already have plants to give away!

Some tomato plants, runner beans, beetroot and cabbage as well as some Busy Lizzie’s and other flowers kindly donated by Plants Galore in Dunston, and nasturtiums kindly donated by Ele Brown.

Bring your excess plants to the allotment on Wednesdays between 10am and 2pm and take away something new for your own garden!

Don’t forget:

  • We still have indoor and outdoor Veg Kits available. Tell your neighbours and friends and let’s get more people growing!

  • If you would like your own little space to grow in then get your expression of interest in for a family plot at our community allotment.

  • Would you like to learn more about a particular aspect of gardening – send your requests by email or post on BLG Growing Together Facebook group

  • AND FINALLY…. how are your sunflowers growing? Keep nurturing your plants as we will be having a tallest sunflower competition in the coming weeks.

Happy gardening to you all,

Suzanne
